Client Profile:
Milk cooperative in the village of Ghachok, Kaski, consist of about 200 members (villagers). Currently between 1300 and 1500 liters of milk is collected per day (about 300 cows), which is sent and sold to a dairy factory in the near city of Pokhara (1 hour per road). Villagers get 45 NPR per liter from the cooperative.
Tasks:
To support the cooperative, so that the villagers can produce dairy products in the future and sell it at a fair price, which will increase their revenues. Assesment of possibility of making cheese and other dairy products, training and recommendations for equipment and investment.
Results:
1. Monitoring milk collecting center. 2. Assessment for a small cheese production plant.
The collecting center need s a lift-up, Milk quality is poor, 1600 liters/day animal management need to be checked, further training is needed, (Animal health, cleaning skills, organisation of the cooperative).
