Strategy 2028: A New Direction for the Future

Changes Ahead – A Glimpse into our Future
The SEC Strategy 2028 is set to align seamlessly with Swisscontact’s overarching goals. This strategy focuses on leveraging SEC’s expertise to empower SMEs and partner organisations, thereby strengthening our collaboration with the private sector. By integrating SEC more closely into Swisscontact’s national strategies, we aim to bolster its presence and influence in many countries.

The SEC Strategy 2028 seeks to enhance our impact by prioritising quality over quantity, ensuring that each assignment delivers substantial impact. To achieve this, SEC has introduced new tools for monitoring and evaluation, which enables us to better track and measure our activities and the impact created. This strategic shift empowers Swisscontact’s local offices, granting them greater control over the deployment of SEC assignments to maximise impact. Consequently, SEC Coordinators will assume increased responsibility for managing and executing these assignments. This transition allows our team in Zurich to focus on enhancing service quality.

As of January 2025, the Zurich office will comprise:

  • Jane Achermann – Head of Programme SEC
  • Esther Gasser – Lead Experts and Communications SEC
  • Mira Fricker – Lead Monitoring and Results Measurements SEC
  • Katherine Klemenz – Lead Assignments SEC (as of mid-February 2025)

New Focus Countries from 2025
In collaboration with Swisscontact’s Regional Directors, SEC has identified new focus countries as part of the Strategy 2028. From 2025, Honduras, Morocco and Rwanda will join our list of focus countries, with dedicated coordinators appointed to manage assignments and expert supervision on the ground. Meanwhile, Bolivia, Nepal, Cambodia and Benin will continue as focus countries. Currently there is no focus country present in Eastern Europe, and Peru will no longer be a focus country.

Assignments in non-focus countries will still be possible, albeit typically subject to a fee and mainly conducted as part of Swisscontact projects. Through close collaboration with Swisscontact, we can maintain specialised assignments that foster sustainable development in additional countries.
