To strengthen the next generation of skilled workers and bring fresh momentum to IMP\u2019s production processes, Managing Director Valdrin Nikaj turned to SEC for support. The company, based in Gjakova, Kosovo, produces high-precision CNC components for a variety of industries \u2013 relying on modern technology, a dedicated team, and continuous improvement.<\/em><\/p>\n

Training and inspiring
\n<\/strong>For this assignment, SEC was able to recruit Peter Schmitt, an experienced mechanical engineer and former vocational schoolteacher. With his extensive teaching background at a technical high school and his passion for hands-on learning, he was a perfect fit for the mission: to support and inspire young talent in a dynamic company and provide them with the tools they need for the future.<\/p>\n

After completing the required online preparation, Peter Schmitt travelled to Gjakova for three weeks. Even before his arrival, topics were prioritised and a training plan was developed. On site, he implemented a practical training programme that ran alongside regular production \u2013 a challenge he met with great flexibility and pedagogical skill.<\/p>\n

Hands-on learning in a real-world setting
\n<\/strong>The core focus of the assignment was the training of ten employees in CNC programming and general machine tool technology. The sessions provided essential knowledge to operate CNC machines correctly and efficiently. Step by step, participants learned how to create machine instructions, plan workflows, and carry out tasks such as drilling, milling, turning, and thread cutting. Peter Schmitt adapted the training to the diverse prior knowledge of the participants, ensuring that everyone – from beginners to more advanced learners – could follow along.<\/p>\n

Despite language barriers and varying skill levels, the training succeeded in providing a solid foundation and boosting motivation. Participants also gained initial insights into more complex processes, such as multi-axis machining.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/em>Strengthening the basics \u2013 looking ahead
\n<\/strong>Peter Schmitt\u2019s support not only enhanced the team\u2019s technical know-how but also inspired new ways of thinking. The first improvements in product and service quality are already noticeable. Particularly encouraging is that many new ideas emerged for future training initiatives and the development of an in-house vocational programme \u2013 a direction IMP intends to pursue further.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cOur team greatly benefited from Mr. Schmitt\u2019s experience and his motivating presence. \n<\/strong>IMP is a specialised manufacturing company based in Gjakova, Kosovo. It produces high-precision CNC components \u2013 from prototypes to small series \u2013 for a variety of industrial sectors. IMP is led by Valdrin Nikaj, who was born and raised in Switzerland, and shaped by values of quality, precision, and craftsmanship. After a solid technical education and several years in the Swiss industry, he decided to return to Kosovo with his family. Interview with SEC Expert Peter Schmitt<\/strong><\/p>\n

What have you helped the client to achieve? What changes have you already observed?
\n<\/strong><\/span>The CNC team has developed a basic understanding of machining, essential production workflows, and how CNC programmes work. This provides a solid foundation for more efficient and higher-quality work in the future.<\/em><\/p>\n

We also took initial steps toward developing a technical training programme at IMP. Further steps in this direction are planned, but their realisation will of course still require a great deal of time and commitment.<\/em><\/p>\n

Was there a special moment that stayed with you?<\/span><\/strong>
\nYes \u2013 after the first training sessions, I felt I had established a real connection with the “boys”. That made learning much easier for everyone involved. Their motivation was clearly noticeable, which was great to see.<\/em><\/p>\n

What were the main problems facing the client and how could you help?
\n<\/span><\/strong>In Kosovo, there are few vocational education opportunities in technical fields, so companies like IMP have to build everything in-house. Many employees have limited experience, especially when it comes to CNC technology and programming.<\/em><\/p>\n

We were able to provide foundational knowledge, strengthen understanding of production processes, and raise awareness of the importance of initiative and active thinking \u2013 for example, using machine runtime for other tasks like cleaning, organising, or planning.<\/em><\/p>\n

How did the participants react to your insights and knowledge? What was implemented?<\/span><\/strong>
\nSome changes could be tested right away \u2013 such as adjustments in clamping or workflow improvements. More complex changes, like optimising cutting data, require more time and testing outside of active production. But the openness to new ideas was definitely there \u2013 and that\u2019s a vital first step.<\/em><\/p>\n

How will your assignment help the client in the future?<\/span><\/strong>
\nThe knowledge shared gives employees more confidence in their daily work. They\u2019re now better equipped to assess challenges and develop their own solutions. Even if major changes take time, a strong foundation is now in place \u2013 and that\u2019s key for long-term development.<\/em><\/p>\n

Was there an encounter or story that particularly touched you?<\/strong><\/span>
\nThat was the story about the brother who went missing during the war in 1999. Since then, the family has been missing him, and even today, after more than 25 years, the father is still waiting for his son.<\/em><\/p>\n

What advice would you give to another SEC expert before a similar assignment?<\/strong><\/span>
\nIt\u2019s worth taking the time to build a strong personal connection first, as trust makes the technical communication and knowledge transfer much easier.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
