Client Profile:
The Health Care Foundation conducts a small engineering office towards the application of hospital waste management. The system is based on the separation of infectious waste that is sent to sterilization and the sorting together with the non-risk waste in different fractions which are then sold.
Tasks:
The implementation has been tested in several hospitals. The sorted material fulfill the requirements of recycling. For biological material from kitchen, aerobic composts are constructed and ready to use. Also, lessons were given in waste management and operational processes which allowed the expansion of the activities in this field.
Results:
It is suggested to apply this system as standard in other hospitals to eliminate the landfill or uncontrolled incineration. The sorting of the dry waste (packaging materials) for recycling should also be applied in other confined organizations like trade centers, hotels and offices. Moreover, the broken construction rubbish could be recycled.
