Client Profile:
The client is a fruit production farm of a diversified company. Its activities encompass 170 hectares of fruit production, processing, storing and trading. The company is keen on converting its fruit sector step by step to organic standards. It approached SEC for technical assistance and training of its staff.
Tasks:
– Review the production process and assess difficulties and bottlenecks in fruit gardens already under organic standards
– Provide recommendations for all stages of organic friendly production, plant protection and storing technology
– Give training to farm agronomist and staff
Results:
First assignment during harvest season in 2017: Got to know the farm, its people, the natural and social environment; assessed existing problems, gave recommendations as far as immediately possible, took questions back home and clarified them with specialists, wrote a report on behalf of the client.
Second assignment in spring 2019 after flowering: Gave training to farm agronomist in various fields, main focus on organic plant protection, for instance monitoring insects by traps to assess treatment thresholds for protection measures.
