Client Profile:
The client is the first vocational school in Kenya to train electrician apprentices according to the dual system as it is practiced in Switzerland. The apprentices have a contract with a company and also receive a wage for their work. For every 4 weeks, they work for the company for 3 weeks and for 1 week they attend the vocational school, where they learn the theoretical basics.
Tasks:
To develop level-appropriate teaching concepts for various activities/subjects. The procedure was as follows:
- What activities does the apprentice carry out during his practical work in the company?
- What theoretical foundations does the apprentice need to carry out the activities?
- How can these theoretical basics be conveyed to the apprentice in a way that is appropriate to the level, for example with analogies?
Results:
For the subjects/activities such as R-C-L, Accu/battery, soldering/crimping, 3-phase motor, etc., training concepts were developed together with the teachers. Due to parallel exams, the teachers could not fully devote themselves to the ToT training and so not all subjects/activities could be worked on and unfortunately, the depth of the processing had to be compromised. The teachers appreciated the input on how the theoretical knowledge can be easily imparted to the apprentices. And so it would make sense to catch up on the subjects/activities that have not been worked on in a follow-up assigenment and also to work on them in greater depth.
