Client Profile:
The client is a dry dog- and cat food manufacturer, who needs to increase capacity and plans to install a new manufacturing line. In addition, they propose starting a line of dog chew treats.
Tasks:
- Increase the output of the existing manufacturing line
- Review the design of the next line before ordering the equipment
- Recommend ways to improve palatability
- Various packaging and chew drying issues to be adressed
Results:
The expert proposed various changes to increase the performance of the extrusion line, which were implemented towards the end of the assignment and which led to a 20-30 % increase in output.
In addition, a series of fermentation trials to produce natural palatability enhancers were initiated, however the results could not be confirmed while the expert was still on site.
