Client Profile:
The clients are two NGOs, mainly sponsored by the EU and the UNHCR, that have a common project with the aim to increase the employment/self-employment of Roma/Ashkali and Egyptians in Kosovo.
The main income of these ethnic groups is generated by collecting and selling recylable waste. The project should help to improve the health and safety situation of the collectors and create jobs in the recycling business.
The expert has many years of experience in industrial Waste Management.
Tasks:
The expert was expected to
- critically examine the state of the project
- suggest improvements/alterations were necessary and
- negotiate with the members of the municipality and the Roma community (VoRAE)
Results:
Together with the project leaders, the planning could be adjusted to the local situation and the financial frame given by the EU/UNHCR.
A consent could be reached between the main actors, the KAAD and VoRAE, to accept the suggested alterations of the original planning.
Two centralized collecting points will be installed that will buy the recyclables from the Roma community and also provide labor for some of its members.
